Launched in 2017, Puffy has innovated in the last few years to provide mattresses that people loved. In 2021, they revamped the lineup and are now offering three mattress models Puffy Original All Foam Mattress, Puffy Lux Hybrid, and Puffy Royal Hybrid

With the immense popularity of their hybrid range, the company decided in June 2021 to discontinue all-foam models of Puffy Lux and Puffy Royal mattresses.

Therefore a word of caution, make sure you are not getting info from sources on the web with outdated information.

Overview

Puffy Lux Hybrid Mattress got a major upgrade in 2021 to be only a hybrid mattress. All Puffy mattresses were foam mattresses until 2020, with Lux being the most popular. Our Puffy Lux mattress review below will reveal why the Lux hybrid is an even better mattress now.

Pros

  • The adaptive foam in the upper layers relieves pressure on the hips, back, and shoulders so you can sleep comfortably on the side and back. Therefore, this mattress is a great pick for side and back sleepers.
  • This mattress is great for hot sleepers. A gel-infused layer, the Cooling Cloud, prevents heat buildup and regulates the temperature of your body to provide optimal comfort. Meanwhile, the Climate-Adaptive Regulation layer controls the temperature and humidity to alleviate overheating.

Cons

  • This mattress is not a good fit for heavy-weight sleepers. These sleepers may sink too far into the bed.
  • The sides of the Puffy Lux Mattress might slump a little bit when sitting on the corner. As a result, the edge support may not be as great as it could be.

Construction and Structure of Puffy Lux Hybrid Mattress

Construction and Structure of Puffy Lux Hybrid Mattress

With its 6 layers, Puffy Lux Hybrid is a 12″ thick mattress made of memory foam and pocketed coils. Like the previous all-foam Puffy Lux, the new Puffy Lux Hybrid mattress has a breathable and extremely soft cover that wicks away moisture and heat so you will have a cool, comfortable, and restful night's sleep.

The top layer is Puffy’s patented stain-resistant cloud cover. While protecting the foam and coil layers, the cover also provides a breathable and hypoallergenic sleep surface.

The next layer is the cooling layer made of 1.5 inches of Cooling Cloud gel-infused memory foam. The mattress is comfortable and cool, as it provides advanced temperature control. Additionally, it contours and relieves pressure points.

In the third layer, you will find 1.5 inches of pressure-relieving Dual Cloud Comfort foam that contours to your body, relieves pressure points, and provides you with a soothing, relaxing sleep.

It is followed by two inches of humidity-resistant foam layer which wicks moisture away so you don't feel stuffy while sleeping. With this polyfoam layer, side sleepers' hips won't sink too far into the bed, and back sleepers will find that it distributes pressure evenly.

Next, the Puffy Lux Hybrid comes with a base composed of 7-inch of high-density foam and contour adapt pocketed coil layer. A coil and foam combination provides edge support and reduces motion transfer respectively.

The last layer is a grip base cover that ensures your mattress stays in place even as you toss and turn.

Feel and Experience

With its Cooling Cloud, Plush Cloud, and Climate-Adaptive layers, the mattress relaxes your body and provides you a soft and comfortable sleeping surface eliminating stress.

You'll enjoy the perfect balance of support and comfort with the Puffy Lux Hybrid. The top comfort layers of the mattress cradle your body without causing pressure points. Also, the bottom layers of the mattress are firm enough to support your spine and keep it aligned naturally throughout the night. Besides, you will sink into it to a certain extent, so you will feel cushioned and comfortable.

Firmness

Puffy Lux Hybrid Mattress Firmness Scale

When buying a bed, it is important to consider the firmness of the mattress. We rate Puffy's firmness around a 4.5 on our scale of 10 – making it just about medium-firm (5/10)

However, heavy sleepers might feel as if they are sinking quite a bit but it is comparatively better than Puffy Royal Hybrid. If you're overweight or obese, you should check out our article on how to pick the best mattress for heavy people.

Pressure Relief

Its Firm Core Support Foam layer supports the spine and eases excess pressure on pressure points. A mattress like this one would feel soft and plush to most back sleepers. In this bed, back sleepers will achieve neutral spine alignment, meaning their backs will be straight all night.

With these features, the Lux is one of the best mattresses for back pain. Its advanced contour foams and a contour-adapt coil base minimize strain from the body's pressure points.

However, the mattress lacks the comfort and pressure-relieving factor for pressure points such as shoulders and hips.

Temperature

Puffy Lux Hybrid keeps you cool and free of moisture throughout the night. It is Cooling Cloud gel-infused layer cools your body by regulating the temperature, and the Climate-Adaptive Regulation layer prevents overheating.

Also, the pocketed coils enable better airflow throughout the mattress. The thin and breathable mattress cover further helps in keeping the body cool. The cooling capabilities of this bed make it a good choice for people who sleep hot.

Spine Alignment and Sleeping Positions

A bed's suitability for you is also determined by how it performs in different sleeping positions, how well it relieves pain and pressure, and how well it conforms to the spine's natural curvature regardless if it's on your side or back. Depending on your sleeping position and weight, you will need varying amounts of support. It is more likely that you will awaken in a good mood if your mattress is equipped to do this.

Side Sleepers

The side sleepers are in luck! Spongy comfort layers in the Puffy are effective at cradling pressure points such as shoulders, hips, and elbows. This mattress is perfect for side sleepers who are lightweight. These sleepers will feel relief from pain as the bed hugs their sensitive joints.

It is also best suited to average and heavy-weight people who sleep on their side and need additional pressure relief at shoulders and hips. It will provide them the cloud-like comfort.

Back Sleepers

The Puffy Lux Hybrid mattress features a medium-firm feel and solid spine alignment, making it an excellent choice for people who sleep on their backs all night long. By conforming to your unique body shape, the foam provides more customized support and pressure relief.

If you are a back sleeper and like a soft-feeling mattress, this Puffy is a good option. The layers of foam provide a comfortable sink-in feeling. Despite its softness, the pocketed coils offer plenty of support, while providing plush comfort and evenly dispersing weight.

Stomach Sleepers

Those who sleep on their stomachs need mattresses that are firmer and offer more support and less sinkage. Due to the sinkage in this mattress, we do not recommend Puffy Lux Hybrid to stomach sleepers considering the possibility of back pain. To achieve the necessary hip support, the bed would need to be firmer.

Heavy People

Heavy sleepers won't be adequately supported by this mattress unless they are side sleepers. If you are not, you need to proceed with caution, as you may feel a sinkage while sleeping on this mattress. For these sleepers, a firmer bed with better edge support is recommended.

Couples

Unlike a lot of other hybrid mattresses, the Puffy Lux Hybrid offers very little motion transfer. Most couples desire this feature. The motion isolation in this bed should protect you from adverse effects caused by movements on the other side.

But there is another important factor that couples need to consider. Some couples may not want to sleep on a mattress that makes them feel as if they are sinking into it while they sleep.

There are multiple foam layers in this mattress along with pocketed coils that give this mattress a lot of bounce. Additionally, it does not have a responsive foam layer. Hence this may not be good for sex

We recommend that you look for a mattress that is more responsive and has more bounce if sex plays a role in your decision of buying a good bed.

Motion Transfer

Sleeping with a partner makes it difficult to turn over without waking up your partner. Here comes the need for a bed that has no or very low motion transfer. Motion transfer refers to the amount of movement that transfers from one side of a bed to the other.

It's an awesome mattress for anyone who shares a bed! You should not feel disturbed by someone moving around in bed next to you since the Lux Hybrid has great motion isolation. Concerning motion transfer, Puffy Lux Hybrid proved to be a great choice for couples.

Edge Support

If you roll toward the side of your bed or just sleep by the side, a bed with good edge support is an important property to consider. When sitting on the corner of the Puffy Lux Mattress, you might notice that the sides slump quite a bit. It may feel as if the foam is compressing a little, which means the edge support is not that great

If the bed sags even slightly, it will give the feel that you are sliding out of it, which can be very uncomfortable and make it hard to fall asleep. We do not recommend Puffy Lux Mattress to heavier individuals or those who tend to sleep on the edge.
