Puffy is a very well-known name in the online mattress industry. Launched in 2017, Puffy now offers foam and hybrid mattresses at a range of price points.

Puffy manufactures all its beds in the United States, and there are currently three mattress kinds: Puffy Original All-Foam, Puffy Lux Hybrid, and Puffy Royal Hybrid. As a result of the growing demand for its hybrid mattresses, Puffy has stopped the foam variants of both the Lux and the Royal.

Royal Hybrid is Puffy's thickest mattress with over 14 inches of thickness.

If you're looking for lumbar support, Puffy Royal might be your ideal choice. Among Puffy's most luxurious mattresses, the Royal has an array of features.

Our Puffy Royal Mattress Review will examine the mattress' performance on firmness, feel, temperature level, and pressure relief. This detailed review will help you decide if Puffy Royal Hybrid is the mattress you are looking for.

Overview

The Puffy Royal Hybrid is a thick, plush mattress designed with 4 layers of luxurious memory foam and a contour-adapt coils base. Adapting to the unique curves of your body, it provides a supportive body-contouring experience and stability

Construction and Structure of Puffy Royal Hybrid Mattress

Puffy Royal Hybrid Mattress Layers

Puffy's Royal Hybrid features a contour-adapt coil base and foam that delivers support while giving you a luxurious and soft feel. Note that all the foams used by Puffy are CertiPUR-US® Certified, which means it is free of toxic chemicals and harmful heavy metals.

This 14 inches thick mattress has 7 layers including memory foam and pocketed coils.

The top layer is made of polyester cloud cover. It is stain-resistant and anti-allergenic, which keeps the bed clean and fresh. It is followed by 1.5 inches of the memory foam layer infused with gel beads. This layer draws heat away from the body.

Immediately beneath this layer is another 1.5-inch layer of ultra-responsive body contouring foam. Three inches of memory foam on the mattress in total provides a supportive feel and reflexive pressure relief to the sleeper.

Next, there are two inches of Puffy's proprietary Climate Comfort™ polyfoam, which wicks away moisture and promotes airflow. The next layer is 2-inch Puffy's Cloud Air Technology Foam that offers complete body support.

The Puffy Royal Hybrid has a base that features a 6-inch contour adapt pocketed coil layer and a 1-inch encased polyfoam layer. The coils provide edge support, while the foam helps with motion isolation.

In the last layer, you will find a grip base cover that helps keep your mattress in place even when you are tossing and turning.

Feel and Experience

When it comes to a mattress, a responsive bed is important for sleepers who move around a lot and hate the feeling of being stuck in their bed. Despite being on the softer side and having thick padding atop the individually wrapped coils, the Puffy Royal Hybrid is not very responsive. But, you will enjoy the cool, comfortable, and relaxing sleep that you need with its ultra-thin, breathable, silky, and luxurious cover.

Firmness

Puffy Royal Hybrid Mattress Firmness Scale

The firmness of the mattress is a critical factor to consider when purchasing a bed. We have rated the Puffy Royal Hybrid a 4 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale with 10 being the firmest. Those who sleep on their sides will appreciate its soft surface which will prevent their hips and shoulders from being too pressed into a firm bed.

Additionally, people who suffer from arthritis or other joint-related ailments may find this mattress to be helpful. However, as a stomach sleeper or somebody who prefers a firm bed, it's not ideal.

Pressure Relief

Puffy's Royal Hybrid combines dense foam layers and contour-adapt coils for a cradling, plush feel. You will experience a pressure-relieving sinkage and contouring feel on the bed.

In conjunction with the zoned design and the highest-quality pocketed coils, the comfort layers will help to provide enhanced spine support. This mattress provides pain-free sleep with the perfect balance of comfort and support that does not cause pressure to build up in your hips and shoulders.

Temperature

The Puffy Royal Hybrid's Cooling Cloud Foam, Climate Comfort™ Foam, and cooling gel-infused throughout the memory foam prevent this bed from overheating. With pocketed coils, there is plenty of airflows which adds to the cooling effects.

Additionally, the Cloud-Air Technology reduces heat absorption and allows greater airflow for a cooler night's sleep. The soft and breathable cover also ensures that the sleeping surface stays cool to the touch. The mattress is recommended to those who regularly sleep hot and want temperature-regulated cool night sleep.

Spine Alignment and Sleeping Positions

When you lie on the bed, the perfect mattress aligns with your spine's natural curve. With the Royal Hybrid, you can enjoy supportive body-contouring and stability that adapts to your unique curves.

Side Sleepers

Due to its soft, cradling comfort layers at the top, the Puffy Royal Hybrid is popular among side sleepers. The best mattress for side sleepers is one that isn't too firm and which allows the body to sink into it for maximum comfort.

Puffy Royal Hybrid is ideal for side sleepers who are average and lightweight. The mattress conforms to their body and relieves pressure on their shoulders and hips. While many heavyweight side sleepers may also enjoy the comfort of the bed. Other heavyweight sleepers may find this mattress uncomfortable as it may sink too far down into the comfort layers.

Back Sleepers

The best mattress for back sleepers is one that can evenly distribute their body weight and prevent their hips from sinking into it. The Puffy Royal Hybrid is perfect for back sleepers but for those who are lightweight or average weight. The coils of the bed ensure the hips of these sleepers are kept elevated.

Unfortunately, this mattress is too plush for heavier back sleepers. They may feel a bit trapped or sinking in the Puffy Royal Hybrid.

Stomach Sleepers

In general like back sleepers, firm mattresses are most comfortable for stomach sleepers. A mattress that is too soft puts stomach sleepers at risk for spinal alignment problems. Therefore, the Puffy Royal Hybrid may not be the best option for lightweight, average-weight, or heavy stomach sleepers.

This mattress has four soft and cushiony layers of polyfoam that cause stomach sleepers to press their hips down too far, disrupting their spine's natural curvature and possibly causing back pain. Stomach sleepers should opt for a dense all-foam or supportive hybrid mattress that can keep their hips and lower back properly elevated.

Heavy People

Mattresses for heavy sleepers should provide body support. This soft mattress is not an ideal mattress for heavy sleepers. Despite its innerspring construction, this mattress does not adequately support overweight sleepers.

Heavier sleepers can sink too deeply into the Puffy Royal Hybrid. Their bodies might sink into the bed's foam comfort layers, making contact with the responsive coils underneath. That is the reason why we do not recommend this mattress for heavy sleepers.

Couples

When you share your bed with a partner, it is important to consider a few additional factors while shopping for a new mattress. There are several features you should consider, such as motion transfer, performance during sex, edge support, and cooling.

Couples who share a bed tend to favor mattresses that are motion-isolating. There are several layers of dense memory foam on this mattress, so it has an excellent movement-absorbing capacity. This plush mattress will keep couples from being disturbed by their partners' restless movements.

In general, couples prefer bouncy and responsive beds for sex. The Puffy Royal Hybrid mattress does have some coils in the base layer, but the multiple foam layers above the coil level minimize bounce and make moving around the bed very difficult. It is not a good mattress for sex. In addition, some couples may experience sagging while on the edge of the bed.

A combination of the puffy's breathable polyester cover, Cooling Cloud Foam, Climate Comfort Foam, and cooling gel throughout the memory foam ensures a cool and comfortable night's sleep.

Near the edge of the bed, the mattress starts to collapse, making you feel like you could fall. One of the main shortcomings of the Puffy Royal Hybrid is its weak edge support.

Motion Transfer

If your sleep partner is a restless sleeper, it can be difficult to sleep on the same bed at times. Fortunately, the Royal Hybrid is your sleep savior. Puffy Hybrid has a very low level of motion transfer. Its thick foam layer on the top helps to absorb movement and keep motion from transferring. With this plush mattress, you won't be disturbed by a restless sleep partner.

Edge Support

The edge support of the bed can be a critical feature to people who move around a lot while sleeping, venturing out to the edge. It is simply the amount of support a bed provides around its perimeter. Puffy Royal Hybrid is soft and fluffy with weak edge support.

There is a small amount of support offered by the innerspring in this mattress, although some may still feel sagging under pressure when lying or sitting along the edge of the bed.

Sleep Quality

The mattress is designed to meet the needs and preferences of different sleepers. In addition to providing pressure relief and a cloud-like feel, Royal Hybrid offers you optimal support in those body areas where you need it the most.

It also provides the accurate blend of pressure relief comfort and support required for an excellent good night's sleep.

Final Thoughts

The Puffy Royal Hybrid is a good option for you if you're looking for a mattress with premium construction, thickness, and some plush features. The Puffy Royal Hybrid mattress combines individual pocketed coils with thick layers of slow-responding memory foam provides you a luxurious sleep experience.

With its zoned support layer and cloud technology, the heavier areas of the body will experience an increased lift. While in our review Puffy's Royal Hybrid did not meet our expectations for stomach sleepers and some heavyweight people, but it will provide adequate support and pressure relief to side sleepers and back sleepers.
